A Brand New Look in No Time
Revamping your home decor does not have to be a budget-busting, ultra-expensive ordeal. If you’re a first time buyer, you will have a whole host of new bills on your plate already, and could really do without the need for an expensive redecorating bill to boot. Instead, try using these inexpensive ideas that are quick to implement too, and your home can have a brand new look in no time!
1. Add a Fresh Coat of Paint
If you do it yourself, painting your new home can be dirt cheap, and the results absolutely transforming if you choose the right colours. Head to your local home improvement store and bring home a collection of paint samples so that you can check them out under the conditions of your home lighting plan. Live with them a little before choosing your favourites. You’ll find that purchasing the paint and necessary equipment is really inexpensive if you shop savvy, and the change it makes to your decor is enormous.
2. Change the Curtains
If your home came with no window coverings–or possibly worse, it has old-fashioned tacky ones–change them to something new for a completely different look. If you have access to a sewing machine, making your own curtains could save the budget, and since you’re sewing a simple rectangle of fabric this can be quite easy to accomplish even if you’re a total novice to sewing.
If you don’t have time to do this yourself, then go for pre-made curtains rather than of custom-made ones; custom-made soft furnishings, whether a representative comes to your home to take measurements or you provide the measurements yourself, can prove extremely costly. Most major department stores sell pre-made curtains at very affordable prices, especially if you are patient enough to wait until they are reduced on sale.
You’ll be amazed by how the addition of a few carefully chosen accessories can completely boost the look and feel of your home’s interior. Buy a few cheap and cheerful throw cushions for your sofa, and you’ll see that you have a brand new look at very little cost. Add a fashionable throw to drape casually across the arm of your favourite lounge chair, and again, the look is completely updated. For your bathroom, something as simple as the addition of new towels can freshen things up dramatically.
Landscaping is an often-overlooked way of revamping the look of your home. If all you have is a plain lawn, then spruce it up with a few trees from your local garden centre. If you want to do this on an ultra-low budget, then wait until later in the year when they mark down their shrubs and trees by as much as 50%. Most trees and shrubs can handle being planted late in the season; by the next spring, you’ll see that they survived just fine. If you have no lawn at all, just undeveloped dirt, then the most inexpensive way to transform your outdoor space it is to buy soil and grass seed, and grow a lawn yourself. All it requires is a little bit of time and effort on your part, and you’ll end up with a lush patch of green outside your front door.
5. Add Indoor Plants
Everyone can benefit from adding a few houseplants to their home. Not only are they good for interior air quality, but they look fantastic too. Again, be sure to watch for sales so you don’t spend too much, or better still, the next time you’re at the home of a friend or family member, have a snoop around at their houseplants! If you see any that you like, ask them if you can take little cutting or two home. This route costs you nothing at all, and with just a little TLC those cuttings will grow into full-sized plants.
All it takes is a Little Time and Creativity
With just a little bit of time and creativity, you can completely change the look of your home, with very little impact on your bank balance. Try these ideas, and you’ll discover many more as you go – then in no time at all, you’ll have a brand new look for your home!
